A Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (CDCES) (formerly Certified Diabetes Educator- CDE) is a healthcare professional that has advanced training in diabetes education and management. A CDCES can be a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Dietitian (RD), Registered Pharmacist (RPh), Physician (MD or DO), other Primary Care Provider (NP or PA) or Social Worker (SW).

The initials “CDCES” after their name and profession recognizes successful completion of a National Certification Exam. The main purpose is that the diabetic public receives standardized quality care for diabetes education.
