  • Medicare benefits are the same throughout the USA.
  • Benefits apply to both Type I and Type 2 diabetes.
  • The following may be covered at 80% by Medicare Part B* (if your yearly deductible is met)
    • Meter & Strips for testing blood glucose*
    • Replacement batteries for meter
    • Lancets and Lancet device
    • Diabetes Management Classes (see section in Resource Guide)
    • Counseling by a Registered Dietitian
    • Specialty shoe wear or inserts.
    • Special equipment for persons with disabilities.
    • Insulin pump.

*The number of strips may be limited, “Ask how many you’ll receive per month”.

Medicaid

DHSS Division of Social Services administers the Medicaid Program (also known as Medical Assistance or Title XIX of the Social Security Act). This is a federal – state insurance program which covers specified medical expenses for the low income, aged, blind, and disabled. There are several plans to choose. There are distinct eligibility criteria for participation in the program.

Every Public Library in the state of Delaware has a diabetes “information section”. There is information on diabetes in general, cookbooks, and other resources which are available to check out using your library card. The libraries also have computers you can use to go to the internet and find even more information on diabetes. If you have never used the computer before, the library personnel will be happy to help you. Take this Resource Guide with you and show them the websites you would like to view.
