Please see below for our list of speakers for the 2026 Virtual Diabetes Symposium on Wednesday, February 4 and Thursday, February 5. This activity is intended for Delaware accredited school nurses, dietitians and CDCESs to receive continuing education credits. It is also open to all educators with students with diabetes in their classroom.
Deborah D’Souza-Vazirani, DrPH, MHSA | National Association of School Nurses
Deborah D’Souza-Vazirani is NASN’s Director of Program Evaluation, Grants and External Partners. She leads NASN’s T1D Awareness and Screening programming. Deborah is a public health practitioner with over 20 years of public health experience in both the public and private sectors.
Paul Enlow, PhD | Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware
Dr. Paul Enlow is a Research Scientist in the Center for Healthcare Delivery Science and Clinical Psychologist in the Division of Behavioral Health at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware. He is also an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. He earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology from West Virginia University with a focus in Child Clinical and Health Psychology. Dr. Enlow collaborates closely with patients, their families, and healthcare providers to develop and test interventions to reduce disparities in the healthcare delivery and outcomes of youth with type 1 diabetes. His research has been funded by NIH, the International Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes, AHRQ, and PCORI. In addition to conducting research, Dr. Enlow provides psychological services to youth with a variety of chronic medical conditions.
Rodney La Point, MSNEd, RN | National Association of School Nurses
Mr. Rodney La Point obtained his master’s degree in nursing education from University of Texas at Arlington and is currently the NCPD and Conference Lead Nurse Planner for National Association of School Nurses (NASN) where his duties include overseeing the online learning education and the development of the educational sessions at both annual conferences.
He has 26 Years as a Registered Nurse in Texas, and 20 Years in School Nursing, and has 15 years of emergency nursing experience.
Carrie Matuzsan, LSW, CDCES | Blue Circle Health
Carrie is a Case Manager at Blue Circle Health. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 12 years old and received care at an adult endocrinology office. After pursuing a degree in medical social work, she began working at a pediatric endocrinology clinic. Here she was able to see the differences between pediatric and adult endo offices and provide support to young adults experiencing life changes. Carrie has received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychological and Brain Sciences from Johns Hopkins University and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. Carrie has volunteered for various JDRF (now Breakthrough T1D) events, galas, and fundraisers in her time with T1D. Carrie aims to continue supporting the diabetes community.
Eleni Sheehan, APRN, FNP-BC, CDCES | Blue Circle Health
Eleni is a family nurse practitioner and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist at Blue Circle Health. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 9, she brings personal insight to her care for people with diabetes, particularly young adults. Previously, she worked at the University of Florida, where she developed a program to help patients transition from pediatric to adult diabetes care and contributed to Project ECHO Diabetes, a telehealth outreach initiative.
Eleni holds degrees in communication (Tulane University, University of South Florida) and nursing (University of Florida). She has been deeply involved in diabetes advocacy, serving on the JDRF North Florida Chapter Board, supporting DiabetesLink, and volunteering with Florida Diabetes Camp.
Crystal C. Woodward, MPS | American Diabetes Association
Crystal C. Woodward, MPS, is the Vice President of the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Legal Advocacy division including its award-winning Safe at School® Campaign. Crystal is considered a national authority on the rights of students with diabetes and has spoken at conferences and forums throughout the United States and internationally on how to effectively advocate on behalf of students with diabetes. She is a t1d parent who began her advocacy as a volunteer for ADA in the passage the first Safe at School law in the nation in Virginia as she successfully pursued an Office for Civil Rights complaint resulting in a settlement that is still a nationwide model for safe and effective school diabetes care.
Crystal, a former litigation paralegal is a contributor to many journal articles and diabetes publications including many ADA key resources such as its school guide entitled “Helping the Student with Diabetes Succeed: A Guide for School Personnel,” school and childcare position statements, school training modules, college rights guide, and its “Legal Rights of Students with Diabetes” treatise. Crystal is a member of the Virginia Diabetes Council and the Maryland State Diabetes in Schools Group and serves on several diabetes youth advisory and review panels, and local community boards.
