10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Redefine Your Health, Transform Your Life: The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program: During the one-hour information session, you will learn about prediabetes and reducing your risk for developing type 2 diabetes through the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program. The information session will cover program eligibility, format, and additional benefits available through the YMCA of Delaware.

12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Diabetes: The Importance of Screening for Complications: Diabetes is a leading of death, disability and expense across the United States. All of these things can be controlled, if not prevented, given appropriate behavior, education and diet. Blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, neuropathy and much more are the unwelcome baggage of uncontrolled diabetes. This session, Dr. Ashok Subramanian, CEO of CarePortMD, will cover these complications and the importance of screening for them to recognize their onset and delay their progression.

2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Take Charge. What Matters Most to You?: Discover how end-of-life planning can give your life new meaning. Learn how to capture your end-of-life wishes in an Advance Directive so loved ones can honor your choices with dignity and respect. Get ready to live your best life with greater insight and intention!

2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Diabetes Alert Dogs presented by Canine Partners for Life & sponsored by Fur-Baby Pet Resort: Diabetes alert dogs are trained to detect low blood sugar levels, giving individuals with diabetes the opportunity to take precautions before their blood sugar drops to a critical low. Join Susan Guy, Chief Operating Officer of Canine Partners for Life, to learn how these dogs are trained, the many ways they can assist someone with diabetes, who qualifies for a diabetes alert dog, and how to apply.

4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Dining with Diabetes: In this session we will provide a brief overview of the Dining with Diabetes program. Dining with Diabetes is a five part nutrition and cooking series for people with diabetes, their family members and support people, but is open to anyone – with or without diabetes. The program includes diabetes education-specifically around nutrition, cooking demonstrations, and tasting of healthy foods.  Class topics include diabetes basics, carbohydrates & meal planning, fats & sodium, vitamins & minerals, and a seasonal topic at the reunion class.  The goal of Dining with Diabetes is to increase participant knowledge around foods that impact blood sugar.  This is important as knowing how foods impact one’s blood sugar can allow individuals to choose foods to better manage their blood sugar, and therefore better manage their diabetes.  Attend this session to learn more about the Dining with Diabetes program!
