- (Breakout D): Nicotine and Diabetes: What You Need to Know presented by Alyson Lang, Tobacco Prevention & Control Program: Join us for an essential session that delves into the risks and repercussions of smoking and nicotine use—cigarettes, cigars, hookah, vaping, and nicotine pouches—specifically for individuals living with diabetes. This presentation will provide critical insights into how tobacco and nicotine products, along with exposure to secondhand smoke and vape aerosol, impact blood glucose levels, insulin sensitivity, and the overall progression of diabetes. We’ll explore the unique health challenges and complications these substances can bring, equipping attendees with practical knowledge for healthier choices. More importantly, if you smoke or vape and you have diabetes, and you live with or work with someone who smokes or vapes, you’ll learn about the benefits of overcoming the physical and mental addiction of nicotine, by enrolling in the DE Quitline program.
